Don't Dim Your Light for Others

Had a session today and this came up in my talk…

– Have you ever held back your ideas in a meeting, so a colleague doesn’t feel overshadowed?
– Downplayed your achievements to avoid making others uncomfortable?
– Or, as a student, skipped answering a question just so your friend—whose parents constantly compared and criticized—could score better?

Many of us do this, thinking it’s a form of humility or teamwork. But is it really?

Playing small doesn’t serve anyone—not you, not your team, and certainly not the people who look up to you.

True collaboration isn’t about shrinking to make others feel big; it’s about growing together.

Confidence isn’t arrogance. Own your success, acknowledge your skills, and step into your potential—without guilt.

Because when you shine, you give others permission to shine too.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever held back to keep the peace? Let me know.
