The People you allow into your life either build you up or tear you down.

A harsh truth everyone needs to hear:

The people you allow into your life will either build you up or tear you down.

Most people underestimate just how much their surroundings shape them.

If you surround yourself with complainers, you’ll find reasons to complain.
If you surround yourself with dreamers, you’ll start dreaming bigger.
The company you keep doesn’t just influence you — it infects you.

And not all infections are good.

In my experience of meeting different individuals, one clear truth emerged: Your circle directly impacts your progress. Sometimes it takes just one person to drag you down, or lift you up.

Now, let me make it clear before you think, “I can’t just cut people off”:

— You may have a friend with excuses, but do they push you to grow?
— You may have a colleague with doubts, but do they support your risks?
— You may have a mentor who plays it safe, but do they inspire you to be bold?
— You may have a family member stuck in negativity, but do they cheer for your wins?
— You may have a partner who avoids challenges, but do they encourage your ambitions?

The influence of people around you is real. Whether you want to believe it or not, they’re either pulling you up or dragging you down.

So, if you want to grow, protect your environment fiercely. Do this:

— Identify the energy drainers.
— Distance yourself from constant negativity.
— Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you.
— Spend time with those who have achieved what you aspire to.
— Seek individuals who support you, even when it gets tough.
— Limit interactions with people who constantly downplay your goals.
— Remember, you’re the average of the 5 people you interact with the most.

Growth often requires making hard decisions, and this is one of them. Not everyone deserves access to your mind, energy, and time.

Because the truth is: the people you allow in are contagious. Make sure you’re catching the right things.

And remember: Be quick to cut. Opportunities love a clear mind, not one muddled by others’ baggage.
